Pakistan, Sri Lanka in talks for ODI series ahead of 2023 World Cup

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket Board are in talks to include ODIs during Men in Green’s scheduled Test tour of Sri Lanka in July.

This move is believed to be in response to the upcoming World Cup 2023 scheduled in India and the need for teams to gain momentum and preparation for the event.

According to sources, high officials from both boards have begun the initial talks, and discussions are still ongoing.

Pakistan is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series in July, which is part of ICC Test Championship cycle.

Both boards could potentially substitute Tests with ODIs or explore the possibility of holding 50-over matches alongside the traditional red-ball games. The boards might explore a new window in the Test Championship cycle, to reschedule the Test series then.

The PCB has not yet made a decision regarding the inclusion of one-day matches, but both boards seem to also recognize the importance of the Test Championship.

The inclusion of one-day matches will provide an opportunity for the teams to gain valuable practice and momentum ahead of the World Cup.
