Viral: This “Smashed Samosa Burger” In Toronto Has The Internet Divided

Be it any occasion, piping hot samosas make for a drool-worthy indulgence. With a crispy outer layer and a spicy potato filling, it is all the more delicious when paired with green chutney and a cup of tea. We can surely never get enough of this classic Indian street food. Many prefer to relish the snack as it is, while others opt to stuff it between slit pav or use it to make samosa chaat. Recently, a video of a food vendor at a food flea market in Toronto has gone viral because of his unique combination of samosa and bread – which he has named ” a smashed samosa burger.”

In the video, we get to see the step-by-step process of putting this experimental treat together. The vendor is first seen holding a brioche bun, cut into equal halves. He adds a small portion of cucumber slaw: shredded cucumber soaked in white vinegar, sugar and black pepper. Next, the vendor places a samosa that is “smashed up a tad bit” on top of the slaw. He then pours a spoonful of chana masala on top to make it “really sloppy and beautiful.” From the toppings section, the vendor adds some cilantro or coriander, pickled red onions and green chillies. To finish off, he drizzles the ‘patty’ with some sauces and closes the burger with the other half of the bun. The reel was shared by the official Instagram account of the flea market, Smorgasburg Toronto. Watch it below:

Not pleased with the ingredients that were paired with the classic samosa, many users have called it a “terrible” creation. One of them wrote, “Don’t do this … common…samosa is an emotion pls leave it alone.” Another said, “Terrible idea. Ruins the essence and authenticity.” A person commented: “Bro it’s samosa pav a Bombay snack calling it a smashed samosa sandwich won’t change what it is.”
