The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the ‘Player of the Month’ nominations for April.
Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has been nominated for Player of the Month. Namibia’s Jared Erasmus and UAE’s Mohammed Wasim were also among the nominees. The players were nominated based on their performance in the month of April.
It should be noted that in the T20 series against New Zealand last month, Shaheen Afridi achieved a unique feat in the T20 format. He completed a total of 50 wickets in the first over in T20, becoming the first bowler to cross this milestone.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had recently said each player would be awarded $100,000 if Pakistan won the T20 World Cup.
According to details, Naqvi held a meeting with the officials and players at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The PCB chief stayed with the players for two hours, where he talked about the playing strategy with the cricketers.
“There is no worth to the prize I announced in front of Pakistan’s victory. Hopefully, you [players] will bring pride to the country this time around,” Naqvi said.
Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja recently said it was unfair to oust speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi from the captaincy within a day.
Expressing his thoughts, Raja said: “What had happened to Shaheen Shah Afridi also happened to me. It would have been to take Shaheen Shah Afridi in confidence ahead of making the decision about the captaincy.”
Rallying behind Shaheen, Raja said: “Shaheen Shah Afridi is a matchwinner.”
