“Icing on the cake,” Shadab Khan on winning World Cup 2023 in India

Pakistan all-rounder, Shadab Khan, expressed his thoughts on the upcoming World Cup 2023 scheduled in India later this year in the month of October-November.

Khan’s insights shed light on Pakistan’s mental preparation, strategy, and outlook for the tournament.

While speaking to a local cricket analyst, Khan, known for his versatile skills on the field, highlighted the significance of winning the mega-event in India.

“Winning the World Cup in India will be like the icing on the cake… Definitely, whichever team comes will come to win the tournament, but the key is how you as a team play and how you start because we will have to play against every team; it’s a great opportunity for all the teams,” he said.

Addressing the challenges of not having crowd support in India, the leg-spinner stressed the importance of mental fortitude.

He commended his fellow players for their mental strength, expressing confidence in their ability to overcome this obstacle and perform well in the tournament.

“We won’t have the crowd support in India. In that sense we’ll have to be very strong mentally. The way our players are, mentally strong, I think we’ll have a good tournament,” he said.

Regarding their strategy against prominent players like Virat Kohli, the 24-year-old shared a pragmatic approach.

He mentioned that there are no extraordinary plans for specific batters; rather, the team’s strategy revolves around bowling accurately and inducing mistakes from the opposition.

“There are no specific plans for Virat Kohli. Everyone makes similar plans for opposition batters, which is to bowl in the right areas and hope for the batsman to commit a mistake,” he concluded.
