Maturity will come with time: Chief selector on Imam’s tweet on ODI exclusion

Haroon Rasheed, the Chief Selector, expressed his views on Imam-ul- Haq’s cryptic tweet during New Zealand series, which garnered a lot of attention from fans, who thought that the opener was disappointed after being dropped in the fourth and fifth ODI match against the Kiwis.

Rasheed emphasized that all cricketers are professionals and understand that being part of a team means they may have to sit out at times.

Furthermore, he encouraged those who are not currently playing to support their teammates while considering themselves as part of the playing XI.

“You often say something on social media to increase your followers and to get people’s reactions. There are cricketers around the world who also use social media. It is mentioned in your central contract that what benchmarks you need to follow. If you violate them, then obviously there will be some repercussions,” Rasheed said to a local TV channel.

“All our cricketers are professionals and they know that sometimes they will be part of the team and sometimes they will sit out. I feel that whoever is part of the 15-member squad, can become part of playing XI at any time. Even the four that sit out, should support others while considering themselves as being part of the playing XI,” he added.

Rasheed recognized that the concept of a rotation policy is relatively new for the team. He expressed his belief that with time, the players will develop more maturity and adapt to this policy.

“I think more maturity will come with time as we are not used to this kind of changes. I think things will get better with time,” he concluded.
