Babar Azam, the Pakistan captain and one of the best batsmen in the world, named four batters whom he enjoys watching play. Pakistan captain has earned a reputation as a stylish and technically proficient batsman, and his admiration for the players he listed speaks to his appreciation for the artistry of batting.
At the top of Azam’s list was Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain and one of the most respected batsmen in world cricket. Abdullah Shafique was also mentioned, who has drawn comparisons to Azam himself for his elegant strokeplay and impressive technique.
“I try to follow batting of most batters. I try to watch the highlights if I miss someone’s batting. Mostly, I really enjoy [watching] Kane Williamson. I also enjoy [watching] Abdullah Shafique, considering the way he plays and is a stylish batsman,” Babar shared in an interview with Cricwick.
The 28-year-old also named Joe Root, who is known for his classical strokeplay and his ability to score runs in all conditions. Finally, Azam cited Jos Buttler, the explosive English wicketkeeper-batsman who is known for his ability to score runs quickly and aggressively.
“Joe Root is also someone I enjoy watching [bat]. It is also exciting to watch Jos Buttler, when he is on song,” Babar concluded.
