Israel-Gaza war live updates: Attacks on Gaza hospitals ‘reprehensible,’ U.N. official says, as facilities face near-total collapse

Health-care infrastructure in Gaza City is facing near-total collapse as fierce fighting erupts around hospitals with dwindling food, fuel and water supplies. The largest hospital, al-Shifa, came under Israeli attack Saturday, the director general of the Gaza Health Ministry told The Washington Post. Israel denied that its forces were targeting or blockading al-Shifa. The situation is also dramatically worsening at other hospitals in the enclave, including al-Quds, where Israeli tanks reached within 20 yards of the hospital gates, the Palestine Red Crescent Society said. U.N. aid chief Martin Griffiths called the attacks “reprehensible,” saying there cannot be any justification for “acts of war in health care facilities.” The Rafah border crossing will open again on Sunday for “foreign passport holders” whose names are on preapproved departure lists, Gaza’s border authority said.
